Happy Christmas to all our members and readers – and all very best wishes for a healthy New Year!
2011 promises to be an exciting year for the fitness industry – the new government white paper on promoting a more active lifestyle, the run-up to the Olympics and the interest in fitness and sport that will generate and the industry itself having to be ever-more creative to stay one step ahead of the recession are just some of the challenges we face.
At REPs we’re looking forward to promoting our message to the public as well as providing more support and marketing materials for our members. We’re also part of the Fitness Industry Association (FIA) as part of its Joint Consultative Forum (JCF) – a group dedicated to working with six of the Royal Medical Colleges in order to promote exercise as a way of increasing good health and managing disease, and draw-up new standards in exercise referral.
The JCF is chaired by the FIA’s Chief Medical Officer Dr John Searle and includes representatives from the Royal College of General Practitioners, the Royal College of Physicians, the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, the Faculty of Public Health, the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine, training providers, exercise professionals and REPS Registrar Jean-Ann Marnoch
The REPs team has also put together a new calendar of conventions – if you’ve not been to one before do come along – 97 per cent of delegates say they’ll rebook to take part in interactive workshops, hear keynote speakers and earn CPD points. The first convention is to be held in Cardiff, Wales, on Friday February 18th 2011. See www.exerciseregister.org for more details.
