REPs part of new European e-learning project

The Register of Exercise Professionals is one of 19 core partner organisations and bodies involved in creating a European platform for e-learning in fitness based on European standards for fitness.

The eLearning Fitness project (or eLF) also hopes to produce a platform for national registers that may then be used by European countries.

It is hoped that once established the eLF project will not only provide e-learning that meets the minimum standards for both theory and practical skills and competencies, but also create a platform for interactive national professional registers, with the ability to collaborate with other international registers. The e-learning courses and register platform will be translated into the languages of the project members by theUniversityofRome, inItaly, which is managing the project, and the project’s 38 partner organisations.

REPs Registrar Jean-Ann Marnoch said: “Since this project was launched in February we have been in a research phase which comes to an end inLondonthis week (September 2011). REPs will be leading the development of the national register platform as part of the next phase of eLF project.

“It’s a very exciting project to be involved in and one that will hopefully encourage all fitness professionals, including those who find it hard to attend conventional training courses and sessions, to keep up-to-date with current qualifications and guidelines, as well as helping improve the health of the people of Europe. “
